I’m not the smartest person around – I’m clever enough, I suppose, and my memory is pretty good, and I have a head full of useless trivia, but that’s about it – and so whenever I read something or watch something that is smarter than I am, I furrow my brow and react like a stereotypical caveman – “Greg’s brain hurt!!!!” So it was with Night Bus, a surreal journey through Zuo Ma’s unconscious, where I keep thinking there’s something I’m missing and all the smart people with their tweed jackets and hip spectacles are laughing at my distress at not quite getting it. Orion Martin translated this, and we’re going to take a look! “I’m so nervous, I just sit and smile … your house is only another mile”ĭrawn & Quarterly has this newly translated collection of stories from Zuo Ma, who wrote and drew these over the past decade or so. ![]() 6/23/2023 0 Comments Garden by Yuichi Yokoyama![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Yokoyama’s book Garden, which just came out in an English-language edition via Picturebox, which also published his earlier books New Engineering and Travel, is in some ways the most conventional of the three. So, logically, it makes sense that the first time we see anything in this new near fully organic world of the Legion, it’s through the eyes of a character that has lost their memory. It’s definitely a weird one from the get-go, and with it being a stand-alone novel, everything had to be built from the ground up, so we get a lot of it. ![]() THE STARS ARE LEGION ( Amazon) is the most-recent stand-alone novel by author Kameron Hurley other than THE LIGHT BRIGADE. Because without those two things, imagination and wonder just don’t matter. ![]() But before any of that, the story has to be well told through some solid characters. In fact, it’s probably why I like good Science Fiction even more than good Fantasy. It’s one of the reasons why I love Science Fiction so much.
